NASA SPHEREx: A new mission to study the Universe

US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) It decided on a new mission to study the Universe.

Project received the name SPHEREx - sokrashtёnno of Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization and Ices Explorer (SPHEREx).

It is assumed, that gathered in the framework of the mission data will help scientists understand, how the universe evolved. Besides, the researchers hope to find out, how common "ingredients of life" in the planetary systems in our Milky Way galaxy.

SPHEREx The project involves the creation of a special spacecraft, the development of which will be allocated $242 million. Starting probe tentative 2023 year.

The unit will carry out observations in the visible and near-infrared parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. Experts expect to receive information about 300 million galaxies and about more than 100 million star systems in the Milky Way.

Expected, that the scientific program SPHEREx will last at least two years.
