Intel SSD 540s drives are not impressive features. They provide an alternative to cheap competitors' models.
According to the latest reports, company Intel It introduced a range of drives Series SSD 540s. Thus it joined the competition in the lower price segment, including storage media based on memory TLC NAND.
The new series includes six models:
- 120 GB;
- 180 GB;
- 240 GB;
- 360 GB;
- 480 GB;
- and 1000 GB.
Each of them is available in the 2,5 inch version, and M. 2. On board turned controller Silicon Motion SM2258 (and not as previously thought, SM2256) and SK Hynix memory 16 nm TLC NAND, and to communicate with a computer using a SATA interface 6 Gb / sec.
The transfer is carried out at up to 560 MB / s when reading and 480 MB / s when recording data, while the number of operations per second, reaches to 78 000 in reading and 85 000 when writing. The manufacturer has applied here more cache, working on the basis of SLC NAND memory, but when it exceeds the volume of the recording rate drops sharply - pass level 70 – 125 MB / s, and the number of I / O operations to the level 13 500 – 36 000 per second.

SSD 540s drives should get on sale in mid-April, and their recommended prices significantly below, regarding the predecessors of the SSD series 535 - are, respectively, 64 dollar (120 GB), $ 79 (180 GB), $ 99 (240 GB), 139 $ (360 GB), 174 $ (480 GB) and 344 dollar (1000 GB).
