Electric door lock – Things to know?

The name "electric lock" does not fully reflect the essence of the device. More correct term "electromechanical" – locks of this type combine mechanics, that is, the capabilities and functions of standard door locks, with electric drive and possibility of remote opening (some models also have closures) with such devices, like a remote control, smartphone, fingerprint reader or transponder. In the article, we will provide some practical tips and answers to questions, what you need to know before installing an electromechanical lock on your door.how to choose an electric door lock

Methods for opening electric locks for an entrance door

One of the main advantages of electromechanical locks is that, that thanks to them you can unlock the door without using a key. In the online store of the "Engineering Systems" company you can choose electric locks that open with:

  • transponder;
  • fingerprint reader;
  • code keyboard;
  • smartphone.

Does it mean that, that a regular key is completely unnecessary? Not certainly in that way. Open with remote control, smartphone or fingerprint scanner is very convenient, so the standard keyboard, probably, will be used very rarely. However, the ability to open the lock using a traditional key is still necessary in case, eg, power failure.

Installation of electric lock receivers

The transponder is mounted on a surface outside the door in place, weather resistant. It is not recommended to mount the receiver on metal, as this can significantly reduce its operating range. If the wall, where the receiver will be installed, reinforced with metal, a wooden board should be attached to it (if necessary – on stands).

Remote receiver mounts on the inside of the door in a standard flush-mounted box. Correct positioning of the receiver is essential to ensure uninterrupted signal reception. There must be no sources of interference near the receiver (eg, data processor or power distributor).

The fingerprint scanner is installed on the door leaf. Wiring, necessary for its work and nutrition, hide in the wing.

Power supply for electronic locks

For the reason that, that electromechanical locks require electricity, it is necessary to plan and prepare the electrical network in advance so, so that there is a place near the door, allowing to connect the lock to the power supply.

note! Battery can be connected to electric locks, which provides power in the event of a power outage.

Application of electric door locks

Electric locks are very widely used in homes, apartments, offices, public buildings and hotels. Ease of use and effective control of access to a specific building or room – the biggest advantages of this type of lock.

Important information when choosing electric locks

As with choosing any other lock, electric lock model depends, among other things, on the size and direction of door opening and material, from which they were made. The distance between the handle axis and the insert axis is also worth considering. To learn more about how to choose an electric door lock, see the video for this article..
