AMD officially introduced the 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X
CEO of AMD, liza Su (Lisa Su) presented another processor, which will complement the anticipated third-generation family Ryzen top, - Ryzen 9 3950X. As expected, This CPU will receive a set of 16 Zen cores 2 and it will become, according to AMD, the world's first gaming processor with such an arsenal of computing resources.

Like the 12-core Ryzen 9 3900X, its 16-core Ryzen brother 9 3950X will be based on two 7nm chiplets with Zen microarchitecture 2, each of which will involve all available 8 cores. Thanks to this, the 16-core monster can be used in the same Socket AM4 ecosystem without any problems, like the rest of the third generation Ryzen family. In this way, AMD decided not to delay introducing its most powerful weapon, and reveal all the trump cards she has at once, offering a processor for the mass platform, twice the number of cores offered by Intel of the same class.
However, Ryzen on sale 9 3950X will appear a little later, than other processors in the family. While 6-, 8- and 12-core representatives of the Ryzen desktop series 3000 expected on shelves 7 July, You will be able to buy a 16-core flagship only in September. Ryzen price 9 3950X turned out to be expectedly high: it is installed in $749. However, it is worth noting, that all processors of the Ryzen family 3000 have approximately the same cost per core - from $40 to $50, and Ryzen 9 3950X fits into this pattern.

Ryzen specifications also attract a lot of attention. 9 3950X. The fact, that the increased number of cores does not lead to an exorbitant increase in heat generation. This processor will fit into the same 105-watt thermal package, typical for 8-core Ryzen 7 3800X and 12-core Ryzen 9 3900X, but at the same time it will receive close clock frequencies. This means, that the 16-core will also become an elite product in that sense, that AMD will have to specially select for it successful semiconductor crystals with a good margin of frequency potential and low leakage currents.

AMD tried to make the announcement of its 16-core premium product as dry as possible, and diluted it with elements of an overclocker show. Using liquid nitrogen, the AMD team was able to overclock Ryzen 9 3950X to 5375 MHz, getting impressive multi-threaded performance in Cinebench R20 - 12 167 points. And this -- absolute record for 16-core processors. The closest result in 10 895 points are fixed for those working at the frequency 5,3 GHz with liquid nitrogen cooling of the Core i9-7960X processor, but the new AMD product turned out to be 12 % faster.

More details on Ryzen specifications and performance levels 9 3950X, AMD promises to reveal it later, as its release date approaches. The main question, which remains after today's announcement, regarding that, why AMD decided to position its 16-core processor as a gaming processor, not solutions, targeted at users, professionally or amateurly working with digital content.
