Classification quality gear oils

The importance of correct choice of gearbox oil does not make sense to talk. quality масло является главным условием долгой работы трансмиссии. Учитывая индивидуальные особенности и различия технических характеристик каждого автомобиля, The following classification was developed. At the moment there 6 Quality classes GL-1, GL-6 and gear oils, where the letters denote GL (Gear Lubricant).

Classification quality gear oils

  • GL-1 – oil does not contain extreme pressure additives. They are recommended for manual transmissions with a pressure of up to 160 MPa. Maximum temperature of the oil - 90 °C.
  • GL-2 – oils with additives PP. They are also recommended for manual boxes with loads of up to 210 MPa and enable operating at a temperature 130 °C.
  • GL-3 – oils with additives PP. Used in transmissions, where you have to withstand loads up to 250 MPa and the temperature 150 °C.
  • GL-4 – oils with additives PP. Load up 300 MPa and the temperature 150 °C. Used in hypoid gears with moderate loads.
  • GL-5 – oil with a high proportion of additives (twice as much, Cem in OIL GL-4). It is recommended for hypoid gears for vehicles with higher weight. Are used, if the load is up 300 MPa at a temperature 150 °C.
  • GL-6 – to contain 10% More extreme pressure additives. Used in racing cars and are designed for heavy duty (high-speed traffic and heavy loads). These oils are best used with a significant off-axis hypoid gear. Besides cars GL-6 is no longer used anywhere, as the GL-5 meets the most stringent requirements.
