One of the users of the website Reddit published processor sales report for January at the store Mindfactory. true, these data relate only to one major distributor in Germany, but we can consider them as an indicator of the current situation on the retail market.
Despite improvements with Intel processors, buyers still tend to choose AMD models. Last month, almost two out of three processors sold are from the "red".
The most popular models are Ryzen 5 2600, Ryzen 7 2700X, Ryzen 5 2600X, Ryzen 5 2400G и Ryzen 3 2200G. Of the competing models are very popular Core i9-9900K, Core i5-9600K, Core i7-9700K, as well as the Core i7-8700K and Core i5-8400.
No matter how strange it sounded, Mindfactory store revenue is the same as the sales of AMD processors and Intel. The fact, that the margin on sales of Intel processors (despite the sharp fall in prices) an order of magnitude greater than in the case of AMD units.
Statistics show one more important thing. The vast majority of processors sold are budget – This model generation AMD Summit / Pinacle / Raven Ridge and Intel Coffee Lake / Coffee-Lake-Refresh. Unfortunately for manufacturers of expensive models AMD Ryzen Threadripper and Intel Core X make up a very small part of retail sales.
In the coming months, the situation with Intel processors, It must be improved (the market will also appear model Coffee-Lake without integrated gpu). However, it is worth noting, that AMD is not going to give way, so the summer is going to present the third generation Ryzen based Zen cores 2.
