JEDEC memory specifications announced GDDR5X

JEDEC organization has prepared the final standard specification GDDR5X, which was designed to meet the growing demand for memory bandwidth. Technology finds application in the graphic, computer systems and network devices.

The main advantage of the new standard is a higher data transfer rate - it is 10-14 Gb / sec, that is, even a 2-fold increase relative GDDR5 modules. An additional benefit is the same method of communication, that will allow manufacturers to create one smooth transition from one standard to another.

Production of the new memory, Micron recently announced, followed, probably, will the competition - mainly, we are here to expect movement on the part of Samsung and SK Hynix.

Details GDDR5X memory usage are not yet known, but a new standard is an important step towards the introduction of a new generation of graphics cards - at least, so says Mian Quddus, Chairman of the JEDEC. it turns out, that the next generation of cards will use two new memory standards: HBM2 and GDDR5X.
