A team of scientists from Flinders University led by Dr. Chalker has developed a completely new type of polymer, which in the near future can help in cleansing the ocean, in particular mercury in excess situated therein.
The new material has the astonishing mercury absorption properties of the surrounding medium, changing color from red to yellow, depending on the amount of absorbed substances. This can be a saving on the environment, because mercury is very toxic, so after getting into the human body it affects the nervous system. Unfortunately, often it ends up there with fish products.
Until now there was no method, allow to cleanse the oceans of mercury on a large scale, because the cost of such an operation would be enormous. The new polymer could change everything, because it is not only environmentally friendly, but also inexpensive to manufacture. And thanks to a change in color makes it much easier to find a place where a lot of mercury. It is worth noting that they can be cleaned not only water but also land.
